Letter from the Blaine LSC: The James G. Blaine Local School Council (LSC) met on Thursday, June 20, 2013. The parent, teacher and community representatives of the LSC unanimously voted to reject Blaine’s 2013-2014 budget; Principal LaRaviere abstained. The amount of funds allocated to Blaine from CPS was grossly inadequate. Had we approved the budget, we would have failed our 950 students who deserve a quality education, including music and art, and additional resources for a full school day. We would have failed our teachers who deserve appropriate class sizes and more professional development. Blaine is a top performing school. We insist that it continue to receive the funds to remain a top performing school. Simply put, in order to provide the same staffing and programming as we did in 2012-2013, CPS must restore our budget shortfall of more than $600,000. Our decision was reached after careful and thoughtful consideration. We request that you initiate a meeting with the appropriate parties to discuss how the shortfall will be addressed.
