April 24-26: The Green Team in coordination with the Blaine Student Council arranged for classrooms to spend time outdoors, with rubber gloves and trash bags in hand, to clean up our neighborhood. The effort concluded a focus on Green Week 2013.
April 9 - 19, 2013: Blaine PTA revived the Bookworm Angels charity book drive and amassed over 28 boxes of donated books. This adds to our fall collection of 2400 books which established libraries in over 10 classrooms at CPS schools in need. The spring drive replenished the classroom libraries for over 675 CPS students. Thanks to all who participated. Your generosity made a huge difference.
Dec 19, 2012 from 7:30am to 8:00am-- Blaine PTA organizes a "kitchen registry" for a Lakeview shelter, in conjunction with our beloved Operation Cookie. During morning drop off on Wednesday, December 19, families are asked to donate new or unused appliances. Items most needed on the wish list: Tupperware containers for packing school lunches and saving leftovers; glassware sets, dishes, pots, pans, utensils, toasters, flatware sets and kitchen towels.
Dec 2012 -- Blaine PTA organizes a "Blaine Warms Up Winter" Coat Drive from December 3 to December 7. New or gently used coats for children and adults will be donated to a local charity. Receptacles will be located outside the main office.
Nov/Dec 2012 -- Blaine PTA and ART*eology organized seven after-school workshops for children in grades 1-8 called "The Art of Giving Art." The artwork produced in this series will be donated for installation at two off-site locations: an assisted living facility in Andersonville and a women's shelter in Des Plaines. The students also created holiday cards for distribution to those who rely on the Lakeview Pantry.
Nov 2012 -- Blaine PTA organized the 'Every One Can' drive, where Blaine families donated 1,850 lbs of food. Read the Lakeview Patch news article about our efforts!
